In today’s economy, most people who are in college, or even trade schools rely highly upon financial assistance from College Grants to pay for their education.  School is not cheap, so it is definitely in your best interest to see what grants you might qualify for,  then go for them.  There are a ton of different types of grants, many sound crazy, but are offered in hopes of growing the work force in a specific trade.  Among the many topics I have found are:  duck calling, left handed, writers, business, culinary, arts, musical arts, health, history, law, science, technology, english, engineering… the list can go on forever!  Oh, and if you have any unusual talents, abilities, or interests, there may be a scholarship available to support your endeavors in that area as well!

When I bought a country home it never occurred to check to see if the owner had kept animals.  As it turned out they had not only raised pigs, but the creatures were still there.  The neighbor had been caring for my small herd and cheerfully instructed me on how to raise pigs.  I was terrified at first but realized pretty quickly that these gentle animals were easy to care for.  Soon I named them and we all became friends.  Now I often wonder, as I walk around doing my chores, how I ever managed without two or three big, soft noses pushing at my legs, searching for treats.

I used to run a flower shop and the hardest part of the business was getting customers to just set foot in the store. When I decided to set up a website selling my handmade quilts, I was skeptical of even getting started because having prior experience in retail, I know getting traffic is a big part of being successful. In varying degrees, depending largely on frequency of interaction with English, a majority of Swedes, especially those born after World War II, understand and speak English thanks to trade links, the popularity of overseas travel, a strong Anglo-American influence and the tradition of subtitling rather than dubbing foreign television shows and films. English became a compulsory subject for secondary school students studying natural sciences as early as 1849, and has been a compulsory subject for all Swedish students since the late 1940s. Depending on the local school authorities, English is currently a compulsory subject between first grade and ninth grade, with all students continuing in secondary school studying English for at least another year. Most students also study one and sometimes two additional languages. These include (but are not limited to) German, French and Spanish. Some Danish and Norwegian is at times also taught as part of Swedish courses for native speakers.

My exmormon friend has the best stories. She told me about her prissy dog and how it didn’t like to wear a leash anywhere. When her favorite dog park instituted a leash law, she just couldn’t get the dog to cooperate, so they compromised. The dog got to hold the leash in its mouth as long as he agreed to wear it and that’s what he did. She got a ticket for it at one point and when she went to court, the judge cracked up when she had the dog demonstrate his trick. He dropped the fine since technically that dog was on a leash. I love my exmormon friend’s stories!

Years ago in Young Women’s, we had a Daddy Daughter night and my dad agreed to come. There was a game we played where we had to answer questions about my exmormon dad, such as his favorite TV show. I totally forgot about Cheers, so I answered “Dallas”. I think he was embarrassed because that was basically a soap opera. Then we were told to answer what we found funny about our dads and I said I thought it was funny when my exmormon dad punched my sister’s teddy bear in the face. I made him sound like a great guy.

Playing “White Elephant” in my family is a tradition we love. My exmormon aunt always puts in a lottery ticket (which people really fight over), but the craziest it ever got was when me and my exmormon cousin were fighting over the Slinky until the timer ran out. I guess it was the only interesting gift for us younger kids. The grossest one was the used toilet seat my aunt salvaged form a jobsite. That was so nasty, but one of the most memorable White Elephant exchanges we have ever had. My uncle ended up asking for something and said, “What is this?”

When my boy started coming home with D’s an F’s on his report card I knew that it was time to do something about it. I decided to hire him a tutor for english and maths since those were the subjects that he was doing the worst in. I did a search for “tutor London” online and found quite a few in the area. So I started to call around to the different places until I found one that seemed to fit well. I now think that I got the best tutor in all of London, he has turned those D’s and F’s into B’s. I can highly recommend private tuition for those who need extra tutoring outside of school, it may just be a short term boost that is required rather than a permanent tutor.
