Do All Migraine Headache Have An Aura?

In some cases a migraine headache will be preceded by what is termed an ‘aura’ which is likely to come on about 15 to 30 minutes ahead of the headache itself. Auras take various different forms but you will typically see sparkling or flashing lights, zigzag lines flashing across your field of vision and slow and spreading blind spots. It is also not uncommon to experience a tingling sensation in an arm or leg and, in rare cases, to have difficulty with speech and language. In most cases this aura will disappear once the headache arrives although in a few cases it will continue even after the headache has started and, in a very few cases, the headache itself actually preceded the aura. It is often said that you can indeed only have a migraine headache, as opposed to some other form of headache, if the aura is present but this is not the case and in fact the majority of migraine headaches are not accompanied by an aura.
