Helping fight illness in needy children
eNedy children in Africa are going to helped by a generous grant of $4 million by Bill and Melinda Gates to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Researchers in Liverpool are going to try to find a weapon agains the deadly tsetse fly. This is the insect that passes on ’sleeping sickness’, human African Trypanosomiasis which kills 60,000 needy people each year in Africa. This deadly disease kills children and adults aike. Researchers are going to study the tsetse fly’s sense of smell and hope as a result to know what they can put on people, to encourage the insects to stay away because of a ‘bad’ smell. And attra Needy people in 37 countries are put in danger by this fly, that could potentially bit 67 million people.
