How Does Weight Loss Surgery Work?
The theory behind weight loss surgery is simply that it limits the amount of food which a patient is able to consume, and thus the calories which you can take in to be used to fuel the body, to such an extent that the body has to dip in to its fat reserves. This form of surgery is normally referred to as restrictive weight loss surgery. In addition, some forms of surgery also limit the number of calories which the body is able to absorb from the food which is eaten and this form of surgery is generally referred to as malabsorption weight loss surgery. Weight tends to come off more quickly with malabsorption surgery but both will produce about the same weight loss in the longer term.
